Cut -
Bringing out The Fire Within

Cut is directly influenced by man. It is the cutter's skill and expertise that releases the beauty of a diamond. Cut will dramatically influence brilliance, fire, and sparkle that transform an otherwise ordinary rock into a magical work of art. Each diamond is cut to yield its splendor by taking light in and forcing it to bend inside, bouncing it within the stone, then refracting the light into the colors of the spectrum. When cut more perfectly, the better the diamond performs, and the diamond is more beautiful.

Diamond Jewelry 1. When a diamond is cut to good proportion, light is reflected from one facet to another and then dispersed through the top of the stone or bottom.
2. If the cut of the diamond is too deep, some light escapes through the opposite side of the pavilion.
3. If the cut is too shallow, light escapes through the pavilion before it can be reflected.

Many people confuse cut with the shape of a diamond. Diamonds are cut into a number of shapes, depending on the nature of the rough stone. There are seven traditional shapes cut today: round, princess (square), oval, pear (tear drop), marquise (pointed at both ends), emerald cut (rectangular in shape), and heart shaped. Of course, there are other creative options are available only limited by the skill and imagination of the cutter. Shape is largely a matter of personal preference, which on is your favorite?

When a diamond is cut to precise proportions, light is reflected from one facet to another and dispersed through the crown of the stone.
If the cut of the diamond is too deep, some light escapes through the opposite side of the gemstone. If the cut is too shallow, light again escapes before it can be reflected. Only the world's most skilled cutters can successfully unleash a diamond's rare fire. To see examples of the difference, come in to our store anytime and ask to see the differences in Diamond Cut's.
